Comprehensive Evaluations

Dynamic Evaluations

AAT provides comprehensive Speech and Language evaluations that encompass all aspects of communication, including expressive and receptive language, speech sound development and augmentative and alternative communication (AAC). Our dynamic evaluations involve ongoing progress monitoring throughout therapy, ensuring that we are continuously learning what works best for each child and their family during treatment. This approach aligns with best practices for children with complex communication profiles.

Meaningful Assessments

AAT deliberately shifted away from the traditional evaluation model, where children are placed in an unnatural setting and families complete lengthy, repetitive questionnaires. The traditional evaluation results in standardized scores that offer little information about what is already working for the child and family.

We prioritize a natural and dynamic approach to assessment. Our assessments occur in the child’s home environment and foster family involvement. We gather valuable insights by engaging directly with the child and their caregivers, rather than relying on standardized scores or lengthy questionnaires. Our assessments are intertwined with treatment, ensuring that therapy is meaningful and the progress is continually measured. We collaborate closely with families to identify priorities and set individualized goals, allowing for continuous feedback and adjustment as we monitor progress together.

AAC Evaluations

AAT offers in-home augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) evaluations. If appropriate, AAT will manage the process of trialing and obtaining a dedicated AAC device and related communication tools. Many children in need of these assessments and devices face significant wait times at hospital settings, often exceeding a year for an initial appointment. Research suggests that AAC systems positively impact developmental outcomes, including oral language. AAT is committed to closing the gap time for children who would benefit from AAC systems. Additionally, AAT can provide training to schools and help families become comfortable with using and maintaining AAC systems.
